Think of a blog as a web page that the author continues to update with new and typically short comments. Blogs entries tend to be dated and the entry appearing at the top of the page is the most recent. Blogs are created using a simple web form through a service provided on a remote server. There are several such services and basic blogs can be created for free. Blogs are either hosted on the remote server or can be ftp's to a server of your choice. We have been working on a Blog for a year now and feel we have accumulated enough material to use it as a communication tool.
Blog entries will cover current news stories, but will also include links to descriptions of products or projects we find interesting, annotated links to other sites, and personal comments. Authors probably reveal more of our own thinking and personalities in blogs than in other material they write.
If you visit our blog, you will find it to be an unorganized sequence of entries. Unless you visit someone's blog frequently, you may find the lack of organization to be frustrating. It is something like reading diary entries of someone who has visited very interesting places but who is presently describing much more mundane topics. The immediate reaction may not encourage you to explore further. Because the value of a blog is partly in the accumulation of information, we recommend that you try the search feature to see if the author has commented on topics that interest you.
As always, we welcome your suggestions and comments on our comments
Our blog uses a combination of software - Apache, MySQL, PHP - that allows us to operate the blog on our own server. This blog allows others to add comments and to conduct searches. As long as you are willing to provide an email address identifying yourself, you are welcome to add comments to my comments. If you are interested in the technical details of this blog, feel free to send an email.
