Project Idea

Agencies often create posters to promote some interesting feature of their state, region or cause. Posters might display birds, historic landmarks, varieties of apples or some similar set of interesting things. Often, the poster contains a labeled miniature version of the display. A class might create such a poster as a project. What would make such a project an opportunity for active learning? We would suggest that students do the planning, locate and photograph the objects, and do the necessary research to provide labels and short descriptive statements. The example we provide was originally designed as a postcard, but might indicate what the graphic portion such a project might look like (wild flowers). The images were captured with a camcorder during a hike in Montana, digitized (see techniques in this chapter), and combined using Photoshop.
