Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is a FAQ?
- FAQ is an acronym for "frequently asked questions." (FAQ is
pronounced either "fac" or "F-A-Q." ) When repeatedly
asked the same questions about a particular product or service on the Internet,
a person often will generate a list of answers to frequently asked questions.
Many Web sites on the Internet provide a FAQ that covers what people should
know before attempting to use a particular product or service. When visiting
a site, it's a good idea to read the site's FAQ first before you send questions
to the person, called the Webmaster, who maintains the site.
What is a Webmaster?
- By general agreement, the Webmaster is the person who maintains the
server for a particular Web site. Many Web sites include an email account
with the name of the Webmaster for the site. E-mail sent to the Webmaster
account gets forwarded to the person who maintains the server. For example,
at the Web site "www.springer," the Webmaster email address might
be "laura@www.springer." In this example, "laura" is
the name of the Webmaster for the "www.springer" server. This
allows a person visting a particular Web site to quickly contact someone
at that site. It's also very useful when the server has a problem that isn't
readily apparent to the Webmaster but that is causing problems for people
trying to connect to the server.
