Background

This web site has been developed to serve a specific purpose. It is intended to support schools and community organizations who are developing wildlife habitats as educational activities. Educators are developing a renewed appreciation of the opportunities involved in learning from community-based experiences. Understanding how concepts acquired from books and instructor presentations apply in the "real-world" influences both the motivation for a topic and the likelihood that what is learned about a topic will be available when learners are no longer concentrating on course assignements.

This site has an unofficial affiliation with ND Game and Fish and the NatureShift Project. I am involved with both organizations. I have created web pages for the Education Division of Game and Fish since the mid-1990s and I wrote part of the Department of Education grant proposal that launched the NatureShift Project. You will likely find links to the materials developed by both organizations embedded throughout. This site allows me and my students the independence to experiment with educational uses of the Internet without infringing on the missions of the other organizations I have mentioned.

I welcome your comments and participation. The Internet provides the opportunity for individuals and organizations with common interests to develop active communities around specific topics or themes. Feel free to contact me.
