Elementary Student Comments on the Kensal OWLS
The Kensal OWLS project is coordinated by Susan Vaniman (Kensal School) and Mark Vaniman (Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge). Here in their words and pictures is a history of the project.
Dan Angelo, Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge Volunteer, and Corinne Bell, Kensal School Science Teacher, look at OWLS site prior to construction while attending a Project WILD workshop conducted by the Kensal School. Dan, an experienced landscape architect, prepared the design plan for the site. (August 1995)
A total of seventeen trees were planted in August of 1995. Here, a group of Kensal 5th and 6th graders admire a crabapple tree they just finished planting on the site. (August, 1995)
Getting water to the newly planted trees required a team effort by the students. These three demonstrate a creative solution. (August 1995)
One of six spruce trees planted by the senior class with three of the planters. They named this tree "DAVE," an acronym using the letters of their first names. (August 1995)
