(The researcher's definition of laziness)

As a researcher, I would want to know how the other researcher operationalized laziness and student performance. 

Laziness = number of missing assignments.
Student performance = final grade in course.


You may not like how I have defined laziness. Perhaps you are thinking - the students may not understand the content and thus are unable to complete the assignments and will not get a high grade. This is not really a problem of laziness.

This is exactly the point - I would argue that by operationalizing laziness we both have benefited even though we disagree. We know that we disagree and we know what we disagree about.

Research articles require a Methods Section that explains how the researcher has operationalized the variables essential to the study.  In my opinion, the cleverness or creativity with which researchers operationalize variables is an important determinant of what makes some more productive than others. Advances sometimes occur when researchers develop a new way to either measure or manipulate some key construct.
